Open Question: I want my '98 Escort to be a family air loom -- something that I can pass down to my kids. Is this realistic?

Okay, so the car's a 1998 Ford Escort SE Wagon. It's currently in OK shape -- I'm having a lot of work done on it in two weeks. The car was my dads, and he passed it down to me. Aside from that, the car is just really important to me for a number of reasons. I want the car to be something like a "family air loom" -- something that I can pass down to my kids, and something that can be like a "collectors car," even though it's not exactly a classic Porsche or Ferrari. I expect to drive the car until sometime in college. After that, I'll probably have saved up enough to actually buy a different used car, hah. Where I'll store the Escort, though? I have no clue, but I really want to do this. I know the car is probably worth $500, but I'm willing to and want to spend the money to maintain it, store it and keep it. I've all ready put $2,000 into it, and I'm putting another grand into it in two weeks. So: Questions: 1) is this realistic -- keeping the car for that long, or am I just wishing for something that can't come true? 2) Where could I even store the car, anyway, if I won't own a home?
